PERSEUS (Pulsed jEt actuatoRs for SEparation control of tUrbulent flowS) is a CleanSky2 project coordinated by Nicolas Mazellier from PRISME, a research laboratory at the University of Orléans (France). Its aim is to propose innovative methodological and technological solutions to increase the efficiency of fluidic actuators targeting the control of the separated flow on a wing in pre-stall conditions.
To tackle this complex problem, the PERSEUS project relies on the expertise of three different academic laboratories:
- PRISME (Université d’Orléans, France) for active flow control,
- DynFluid (Arts & Métiers Paris, France) for high-fidelity simulations and sensitivity analyses,
- ICA (INSA Toulouse, France) for microfluidic design of fluidic actuators.
The project also includes AIRBUS (Flight Physics Department, Germany) as industrial collaborator and benefits from the feedback of experts such as Prof. J Morrison from Imperial College London and Prof. A. Seifert from the University of Tel Aviv.
Our strategy is articulated around three main research axes, namely:
- The conception of a new generation of fluidic actuators (pulsated jets) with a broad range of actuation frequencies and flow rate.
- Optimizing the design of the actuators based on sensitivity analyses obtained from high-fidelity simulations and experimental data.
- Proof of concept on an experimental demonstrator at high Reynolds number in the S1 wind tunnel at PRISME.
Each of these axes builds on the expertise of the previously academic laboratories.
